Lola Rosario Wrote About The Struggle For Puerto Rico’s Liberation
For The Latino Newsletter, Lola Rosario wrote about Puerto Rico’s fight for liberation. Rosario told Study Hall: “I’ve seen the documentary, PsiQuis: un Giro Decolonial three times. Each time, I walk away knowing that my beautiful People are more than ready to continue ‘en pie de lucha.’ Yes, of course there are those who dream of our Caribbean archipelago becoming #51, but those are pipe dreams. The U.S. has maintained its colonial stranglehold for 128 years. We were born to self-govern. It’s time to end our colonial status – we’re long overdue.”
Rosario writes, “We are ready. Puerto Rico’s decolonial turn has accelerated since the 2019 ouster of former Governor Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Rosselló and the historic 2024 elections, where the Independence Party reached second place for the first time in seven decades.”
